John Horberg, M.D.

Dr. Horberg is a fellowship-trained Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in Adult Reconstructive Surgery including hip, knee, and shoulder replacement as well as Orthopedic Trauma and the surgical care of fractures. He is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.

 

Dr. Horberg earned his medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois. After medical school, Dr. Horberg was accepted into the Orthopedic Surgery residency at Southern Illinois University where he trained for an additional five years before graduating. After residency, Dr. Horberg chose to sub-specialize in Adult Reconstructive Surgery. He completed his fellowship at the Virginia Tech Carillion School of Medicine under Dr. Joseph Moskal who is widely recognized as one of the world’s leading experts on the minimally invasive direct anterior approach for total hip arthroplasty.

 

Currently, Dr. Horberg’s practice is focused on the total hip, knee, and shoulder replacement. In addition to routine joint replacement, he specializes in the reconstruction of complex deformities and revising painful, infected, or otherwise failed joint replacements performed by other surgeons. As one of the only fellowship-trained joint replacement specialists in the state of Wyoming, Dr. Horberg is happy to serve the needs of the region.

Passion

Dr. Horberg is incredibly passionate about the use of the minimally invasive, Direct Anterior Approach for hip replacement surgery. This approach helps speed recovery, limit post-surgical discomfort, and minimize the risk of complications following hip replacement. Dr. Horberg is an expert in the use of the direct anterior approach for all hip replacement cases including complex deformities and revisions. He has published research on the topic and presented his research at national and international academic meetings. Dr. Horberg also regularly travels around the United States to teach other surgeons how to perform the Direct Anterior Approach.

 

Dr. Horberg is also an advocate for the use of robotics, live intra-operative x-ray, and other cutting-edge technologies. He has been an early adopter of robotic technology and uses it extensively in his practice. In light of this experience, Dr. Horberg is also often asked to help teach other surgeons around the country how to perform robotic joint replacement surgery.

Personal Life

Dr. Horberg is a farm boy who grew up in a small town in central Illinois. He spent most of his childhood working on the family farm, hunting, fishing, and playing sports. Before medical school, he attended Augustana College where he met his wife, Meckenzie, who is from Sheridan, Wyoming. They have two daughters, Ingrid and Anja.

When he’s not working, Dr. Horberg tries to spend as much time as possible with his family, especially outdoors. They enjoy hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, snowboarding, camping, hunting, and fishing.
