Concussions
Concussion Treatment for Residents of Wyoming
A concussion is a brain injury caused by a violent blow to or shaking of the head. Concussions are most commonly caused by accidental falls and sport-related impacts, such as a football player being aggressively tackled to the ground. Sometimes a concussion can lead to loss of consciousness and even memory lapse. Due to the severity of this injury, concussion treatment should be sought immediately.
Symptoms of Concussions
Common symptoms of a concussion are headache, ringing in the ears, fatigue, blurry vision, and nausea and vomiting. More severe symptoms can include confusion, dizziness, and amnesia. A person who has been concussed may be slow to respond to questions, speak in a slurred voice, have trouble concentrating, and become sensitive to bright lights. In more severe—yet rare—cases, sleep disturbances and behavioral changes may occur.
When to Seek Concussion Treatment
Even if you’re not experiencing any of the symptoms above, if you’ve suffered a violent blow to the head, you should see a professional immediately. At Premier Bone & Joint Centers, our board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopedic doctors can examine you for signs of a concussion and recommend treatment for you to heal properly. Oftentimes, this involves resting and relaxing throughout the day, only returning to your normal routine when all the symptoms have passed.
Preventative Measures
People who engage in activities that put them at risk can take preventative measures to lower the chance of suffering a concussion. For instance, if you enjoy riding a bike or playing football, wear a helmet to avoid an injury. Additionally, always wear your seatbelt when riding in a car in case there’s an accident.
If you or someone you know requires concussion treatment, contact Premier Bone & Joint Centers today to schedule an appointment. We have clinics in Laramie and other cities throughout Wyoming to serve you better.
